The Minnesota legislature established a solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal incentive program for consumers who install systems using solar modules and collectors certified as manufactured in Minnesota. The program is administered by the Department of Commerce with an annual budget of up to $15 million for ten years.
Time is Limited to WIN the Solar Lottery! The program offers one of the best production based incentives in the country, and more than pays for the cost of the solar system over ten years. It is a lottery-based incentive, and applications must be received by February 28, 2017.
The Made in Minnesota program gives out $15 million a year to residents who recevie their energy from an investor-owned utility. Those utilities are Xcel Energy, Minnesota Power, and Otter Tail.
The lottery is a production credit, and if you win the lottery you will receive additional money to produce solar energy. A typical system would receive about $2,000 a year back from the Department of Commerce. The department sends you checks once a year for ten years.
